Hey anyone know if this works for disinfectant?
Looked around the web could not find anything definitive on this.
This is not ordinary 'bleach' but is often referred to as such.

Cant seem to find any Clorox for sale anywhere in stock except at high price long delivery times.

That 's right. Dichloralphenazone in combination with acetaminophen (Tyelnol) is sold for migraines. It probably will not work, unless @MrAl has a migraine. But then, considering the current state of hysteria, maybe it can be recommended. Not to kill SARS-CoV-2, though.

Hi,

No not for injecting (chuckle).

It is like bleach but not exactly bleach. You can get tablets that dissolve in water and it makes something like bleach that whitens clothes. I think it is just called dichlor chlorine. It is also used in pools to keep the water clean.

I have read that it is not known exactly if it can disinfect or rather if it can be effective as that.
You would mix the tablets with water and maybe clean the counter top with it for example, or use it in the laundry to whiten the whites.

From one of your links:
When the dichlor reacts with water, it quickly turns into hydrochloric acid and hypochlorite ions—also known as “free chlorine“—which then attacks foreign invaders and other microscopic threats in the water.
If true, that should answer your question regarding aqueous solutions.

Buy liquid pool chlorine and dilute it.

In vessels of our flag, it was a norm to keep at least one tank for "drinking" (potable) water independent of those with fresh water.
Once cleaned (every six / eight months) and after applying a light layer of grout (?), they were filled with (potable) water and then some bleach added.

Chief Officer was responsible of the whole thing. In spite of the many (11) years in that business I never learnt by heart what was the proportion. There was a notebook for that. Safe way for something vital as potable water in the middle of the sea.

Nowadays, when my daughter brings me all vegetables for the week, they go straight (bags included), to the dishwashing sink, filled with water plus the small tap of bleach.

After two or three hours I wash them and process.

Down here, bleach of different varieties show a warning indicating if that type is suitable or not to disinfect (?) food.

Do you know that bleach has an expiring date? Massive buying does not apply...!;);)

The "dichlor" (dichloro-s-triazinetrione) is stabilized chlorine: it's a compound of chlorine and cyanuric acid. That's not the same as "bleach": sodium hypochlorite.

The liquid chlorine you buy in the pool store is sodium hypochlorite, just more concentrated.
Ok, so what do you think about the stuff of this thread, think it will disinfect to some degree?

Yes. But I wouldn't wash my clothes with it.

You didn't say what you are going to do with it. I thought you were looking for a substitute for Clorox.

Oh ok, well a lot of people are having a problem finding Clorox bleach for disinfectant so i was asking about that. Would it be effective at all, even if not as much as regular bleach.
I called several places around here, none but none have bleach. Shop Rite says it sells out as soone as it comes in so you have to get lucky to get any there. The hardware store some miles from here says that they are out of it. Home Depot says it is a high demand product so might not be on teh shelves, so it's the same deal there too. This led me to find an alternate, or at least try.
I do have alcohol too but wanted to get some bleach also for disinfecting things like counters, other surfaces, who knows what else.

You can buy liquid chlorine at a pool supply outlet. I checked their prices and they weren't price gouging yet. Some is a LOT stronger than Clorox.

I just bought 10 gallons (four 2.5 gallon jugs) at Pinch-a-Penny this weekend at the regular price -- and I even got one free (one free refill after 10 regular price refills).

Ok thanks i am now right now going to look for some thanks.

A MINUTE LATER:
Ok found some but it's 28 bucks a gallon. Delivery time about 10 days, not good but not too bad considering ship times these days.
They have "6 packs" i guess of powder or crystals, i wonder if they would work.

I pay like $5 for a 2.5 gallon refill. I think there's a $3 or $4 deposit on the plastic bottle.

Ok thanks i'll look more.

But i finally did find some definite answer to the original question of this thread.

First, the chemical under investigation was:
Sodium dichloroisocyanurate

Second, the official word from Clorox is that "it is not meant for use as a disinfectant only for cleaning and washing clothes" (that chemical that is).

Now this does not mean it does not work for a disinfectant, but i guess there has been no testing done yet on this chemical for use as such. So it might work, it might be weak.

Now the question becomes, "How do i test this for use as a disinfectant"?
I have a microscope but you cant see most viruses with a regular microscope you need an electron microscope and although i was intent on building one a while back i never got around to it so i still dont have one and probably wont build one for a long time.
So i wonder if there is a simpler test.
