Welcome to AAC

There are many kinds of comparators.
Present one or what kinda comparator are u referring to ?

Resistors forming a potential divider are often used to establish a reference voltage against which a test signal is compared.

Most people will not type a 6 page, illustrated answer for you when you can search for the basic theory yourself. It has already been written. You only need to find it. When you learn enough to ask a question that can be answered with less than a whole page, you will receive good answers.

Sketch a schematic of the comparator circuit you have in mind, so we know what you are talking about. Be sure to label each component with a reference designator, like R1, R2, R3, etc. for resistors, C1, C2, etc. Without this information, it is almost impossible to discuss how components function in a circuit.
