I just received five surplus OSC5A2B02 oven controlled crystal oscillators from Guangzhou Store on AliExpress. Including shipping to the US, at quantity five I paid about $2.50/each. Threw one on the scope as a quick test and it is dead on 10.0000Mhz.

5V supply, the heater draws about 250mA. Pretty decent specs, and with only a few components it would make a reasonably good reference. I picked them up on principle, and with low price I might just pick up some more to have on hand.

These are marked “second hand” so they are probably pulls, but the pins are pristine.

After settling, with an ambient temperature in the studio of about 24℃, the current seems to be hovering between 150㎃ and 160㎃—which is substantially less.

 

Definitely another trinket to add to my growing pile of “components to be used in a future, but still undefined, project.”
