sure... beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Here is how the majority of people think now though - I broke my laptop screen. I had it fixed. It cost me about the same as a new (cheaper) computer. My classmates were all telling me to buy a new one. Throw away garbage producing mentality. New phone every year, checking facebook status while in class, disrespecting privacy of others.
I don't care much about generalizing, just looking around me and seeing what I see, not looking pretty. There are never good old days either as look at what peace loving hippies left us with (apologies to all the true hippies out there). The problem is no one will claim responsibility.
As far as education is concerned, the latest fad in US is sending kids who were born in winter to school a year later. Apparently they are at a disadvantage otherwise.
