One popular one is the TM MC2100 it is PWM control, you would need to add a reversing relay and if necessary, braking relay. It also requires a small PWM command signal control.
Other versions are made by KB .
I assume you will remove the flywheel?

A while ago I put together some small PWM control boards for the PWM signal, they just require 2 P.B. stop & start.
There is also a 555 version out there to put together.
The relays I used were from Digikey J1512CT24VDC.9

Could the "Rotation CW" marking on the motor imply any brush arrangement which would make the motor run poorly in reverse?
I my experience no. The advised direction is the keep the flywheel from coming off, they are threaded onto the shaft. Reverse direction and they come loose. Max may have a different reason though,
