I'm looking to build a custom trigger input circuit. I've attached 2 schematics and picture of the actual input. The input is usually used with a Photo Sensor.

1 - What is the name of that connector?

2 - Could I simply insert a small wire into the pin 1 and another into pin 2, then short them to trigger the input?

Also appears to be one of the TE Conectivity range (CPC), Digikey sell them.
The military (metal) MS range are expensive, the CPC cheaper.
Max.

Thank you guys for the replies! Also, could I simply insert a small wire into the pin 1 and another into pin 2, then short them to trigger the input? Would it be the same as a "dry contact of a relay"?

Do you need to make your own trigger "cable". Is emergency kluge OK? What I've done is make pins from short pieces of wire that just fit in the female pins. Solder your cable wires to the appropriate pin-wires. Insert the pin-wires into the socket. Glob the pin-wires and attached cable wires with hot melt glue. Presto! A custom connector. If the socket pins are symmetrical, such that you could insert your plug wrong, mark it for correct orientation. If there are unused pins, insert a very short piece of wire into the one unused socket pins to block incorrect orientation.
