For example, LM317 is voltage regulator that can also be used as current regulator. There are plenty of circuits out there with op amps as well.

What do you need to power with this regulator?
I ask because 5v is not much voltage and some regulators need a bit of overheat voltage (voltage drop) and so you may need a special kind of circuit with very low voltage drop.
If you can tell us the whole application that would be good.

 

To get 2A from 5V the load resistance must be less than 2.5 Ohms. Actually less than that because, as already stated, there is some voltage drop in the regulator.

So, is this the case?

Use Bordodynov circuit, post #6 it has very low dropout ability.
