I guess it's not just related to Covid-19 and AAC, cyber space is getting more like a battleground for cold war between govts, security and spying agencies and other blah blah things than scientific purposes.
so,the word of frustration'd not be enough for this disaster as far as people's life is getting more depended to it.

visionofast that's an interesting point of view. Thank you.

Since I don't use social media (aside from AAC) I don't see all the bickering and back-biting that is surely going on. In fact, I specifically stay away from things like Facebook and the others because of all the political commentary that is going on these days. I often say "Opinions are like arseholes. Everybody has one and at least half of them stink." All the "WE's" and "THEY's" arguing their points about politics and such are things I just usually turn the TV news off because I just have heard more than enough.

But yes, I haven't thought about attitudes on social media in general. I'm sure you're right, there's frustration and belligerence there too. And probably more so than on AAC. Thank you for your POV.

If someone had said what they feel free to say online to another face-to-face they would probably walk away with a bloody nose and busted lip. The anonymity of the net brings out the worst in people it seems since there is little fear of consequences. An utter lack of civility it seems...

This is normal human behaviour.

It was observed in the CB Radio era.

It is a known change of behaviour when humans get behind the wheel in a private automobile.

It is evident reading the comments section in any online discussion.

In the local newspaper you have to identify your name and location. Then you will witness more civil behaviour.

I really haven't noticed any increase in terse responses in the last year. I have only had one incident on AAC when a person asking a question got ugly and called me names. His question was incomplete. When I politely asked him for more information, he ignore my request and insisted that I answer his question. The more I explained the need for more detail, the more personal and demanding his answers got. Finally, the moderators stepped in and removed him from the forum.

It is far more civil here than on the local county group on FaceBook. That group is a solid representation of the mostly poor and uneducated socioeconomic makeup of our community and quite embarrassing. At least on FB, they (for the most part) don't hide behind "Handles".

I believe I recall someone insisting on an answer being given in accordance with his expectations. I don't recall the question or with whom he was interacting with. I wouldn't count him among those I've observed becoming more terse on AAC. There ARE individuals with whom I've interacted, they speaking (typing) in a manor that sounded as though speaking down to me. I usually (said "Usually") try to moderate the temperature of such speech with as cool a response as can be mustered. However, I, too, have gotten irritated with others and have likely spoken in a belligerent manor as well. I know I'm not guiltless. I just know that sitting around with little to do but dream up circuits or to build something at a time when such project may be needed gets rather old. I've even grown tired of watching re-runs. Always loved "Home Improvements" with Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson. But I'm getting tired of it as well as M*A*S*H and others. Lack of social life is taxing. Especially when my daughter lives just three doors north of me along with four (soon to be five) grandchildren, and knowing the importance of keeping a safe distance. The holidays this year absolutely suck. No lights, no tree, no Santa Gift Bag for the kids. I just want to have a big barbecue in the yard with the kids, close neighbors and good friends. There's only so much I can do on the internet.

Oh how I remember those days. Diamond Girl (snotty little bleach!) was mean to everyone. I knew who she was and where she lived. Never went to her house though. I was known as "Simba", and at CB Breaks we'd all sit around and talk about a nuisance person known as "January" (my alter ego). We would talk about finding that SOB and beating the snot out of him (different word, not snot). January, me, used to harass her in a voice mimicking that of a person with a mental retardation, I'd say "Diamond Girl - I Love You". She'd get SO STINKING mad at him (me). And there were times we all got together with a directional antenna and try to locate that SOB. Funny, I was helping them fail at finding me. Fun as all get-go. But yeah, hiding behind anonymity breeds contentiousness. I've grown up since then. Had I known me when I was young I would probably have beaten myself stupid(er). (as seen from my current vantage point)

AAC forum is only as good as the members who post questions and answers.
It is in your hands. Take ownership and responsibility for how you want this to proceed in future.
