I has a question. Was it the same percentage? Regular isopropanol (rubbing) alcohol comes in various percentages ranging from 70% up to 99% and the pricing varies quite a bit. Just as an example Equate 70% Isopropyl Alcohol, 32 Oz $1.96 at Walmart and Equate 91% Isopropyl Alcohol Antiseptic, 32 fl oz $2.50 and when you start getting to the 99% stuff in small quantities like quarts I have seen it for over $30. Just to make sure it's apples to apples. The price you mentioned for the everyday cheap stuff is outrageous.

Hi Ron,

Yes 70 percent.

A few years later in Alabama, I found some in a Microbiology lab. It was in a standard ~400mL reagent bottle and clearly marked "Ethyl Alcohol USP Pharmaceutical Grade". No tax stamps on it from the state. Growing up in a dry county in TN a family friend was a Pharmacist and when going on picnics in State Parks they were clearly marked "No Alcohol". He had a Liter sized clear glass medicine bottle with a label reading something along the lines of "Take 1oz orally as needed for nerves. Repeat as needed." with the prescribing Doctor being another family friend of ours. I assumed it was Vodka.
Yes i think they use food grade ethyl for beverages.
The standard non food type had a additive to make it taste bad.

Happens 7 days a week on some TV channels, radio stations and online.
Snake Oil was a real thing.

https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2013/08/26/215761377/a-history-of-snake-oil-salesmen
Among the items the Chinese railroad workers brought with them to the States were various medicines — including snake oil. Made from the oil of the Chinese water snake, which is rich in the omega-3 acids that help reduce inflammation, snake oil in its original form really was effective, especially when used to treat arthritis and bursitis. The workers would rub the oil, used for centuries in China, on their joints after a long hard day at work. The story goes that the Chinese workers began sharing the oil with some American counterparts, who marveled at the effects.

I suppose they oil up before a wrestling match?
:)
Another visit to the local dollar store turned up no paper products and no rubbing alcohol. The alcohol of course is used for disinfectant. They said they might be getting more in but i would have to check back regularly something that is not that good of an idea seeing as how we are supposed to stay home as much as possible to reduce possible contact with anyone already infected.

I finally got a thermometer though and as suspected my temperature is normal. I didnt feel sick in any way so i believed i did not contact it at all. I know a friend who has another friend that did contact it out in California and they are trying to recover. From what i understand California got hit pretty hard too especially in the LA area, a place where i really dont like to go now for a while.

Masks have become mandatory for many places now like the supermarket, dollars store, pharmacy. I never see anyone not wearing one now whenever i go out. It is something i thought i would only see in China.
A friend of mine was unlucky enough to be in line in front of someone that was coughing loudly and was NOT wearing a mask! When asked about it, the guy replied that it was from smoking too much not from the virus, but we both wondered how the guy could be so sure of that it could be both.
Some are questioning the effectiveness of a mask and the social distancing rules because the masks only can block out droplets from another persons mouth not the virus itself. They also question social distancing because they say 6 feet is not enough distance. But i think the masks could be helping because if anyone else has it it will keep the particles emitter from THEIR mouths from emanating out in to the world and it was originally specified for someone that had a cough but really there are particles emitted even from normal conversation. Also, i guess 6 feet is better than nothing.

Also many places are limiting the number of people allowed in the store at any given time. Walmart was one, the dollar store was limited to 61 people which seemed like a lot though because it's a relatively small store.

I heard an interesting message on TV yesterday. It said that we should all keep a distance from each other but stay close in heart. I thought that was pretty cool.

Stay safe folks...

I still have some questions:

Why give $3.7 million in 5-year R01 grants to investigators in China when young American investigators with approved protocols that had lower priority had to do without?

Why support studies of coronavirus infectivity in China, when such studies have obvious bioweapon implications?

Why was the continuous culture in human cell lines (which can allow the virus to adapt to infecting humans) allowed without oversight?

Why was there no oversight of the coronavirus work?

Does anyone know who might be able to answer those questions? Maybe Dr. Fauci who approved of every single one. Why hasn't he been asked?

Money laundering. How many of those taxpayer dollars came back as campaign donations or other favors to the politician(s) that sent the money to China?

To keep from being political I won't give any links. But if you're at all interested in the hydroxychloroquine saga, Google what has happened today. Some hints VA hospitals and HHS doctor being demoted. Not political but scientific news having to do with the virus, that some could make political.

with less air pollution recently, we can finally see the ...….
That brought back a flash memory. I grew up in LA. Lots of smog in the 50's. I went to college on the East coast, and on my fist night driving back, I was in the New Mexico desert on Route 66. I had to stop and get out of the car. Up until then, I had only seen pictures of the Milky Way. It was magnificent.

In Ohio, physicians are prohibited from prescribing it for themselves or family members -- just like for narcotics. I guess the Governor must know it's the good stuff.
