choosing appropriate power adapted to the electronic device

hi
Recently my LAN router's Adapter stopped working
Adapter's output is 12V 1Amp (damaged one)

i have a spare adapter (of other router's)
its output is 5V, 500map.

i tried this new adapter to the router.
i go lucky.

using this adapter the Router is working fine (with little load)

but will the Router be able to sustain on this low Voltage Adapter even on heavy load ?
are there any chances that when the Router is on heavy load it will demand for more current and high voltage (i mean above 5V till 12V).

Use the designed specifications adapter, save yourself some
trouble trying to use a device not in spec over T and V variation.

Try it and see (but have a fire extingisher handy :) ). How will you increase the load?
when the User traffic increases, while many users start connecting to the internet and start doing the huge uploads and downloads the load to the Router increases, this will lead in high demand of ampere current.

so my doubt was will these routers demand more than 500mAmp current or does the current usually is below 500mAmp in peak loads also.

yes actually i have placed an order for the same specified Adapter through online amazon portal.
What do you mean "T and V variation" ? iam new to this terminalogy.

Temperature and Voltage variation.

Also port traffic on the typical 4 post available for wired LAN adds to the
power level, and speed they are run at, 10, 100, 1000 Mb/s. Faster = more
power.

There are a few things I can't fit:
12V * 1A ~ 12W
5V * 0.5A ~ 2.5W
A way too low power supply voltage to the router and/or a very hot power supply?

What is written on the router nameplate about power supply?

on the power supply it actually needs 12v * 1A.
but i supplied 5V * 0.5A , with this it just gets power on and iam able to browse the internet.
