Can you charge a cApsitor in intervals without discharging it each time like in the case of a ac to DC rectifier that uses a smoothing cApsitor to even out the current but instead of using a smaller farad cApsitor for charging I want to build up current in one larger farad cApsitor so without discharging it each cycle so each cycle the cApsitor builds a little more charge till it meets the voltage input requirements of a transitor in series before it discarges. Can I do this with a diode before the cApsitor so that the cApsitor isn't discharging but is feed current in intervals to build up it's charge. Thanks.
