IOW say I buy several units of the same board and give each one a separate battery pack. Obviously a boost converter will increase voltage at the cost of current but what if I want higher power overall?

Furthermore obviously I will need to somehow interconnect the inputs to charge all of them at once.

You would be far better off to choose a battery and possibly converter that meets your needs, rather than trying to cobble something together from multiple supplies. What is the voltage and current you require? That is the starting point.

Current theoretical goal is 5.5v@5A. Maybe more, but unlikely.

My primary concern is load sharing functionality, IOW battery should charge even when system is powered from mains. Power path function would be a big plus (zero "sag" when disconnecting from mains.)
