As simple as this circuit could be, its confusing me a lot. maybe my lack of understanding with Series and parallels circuits. Despite the values which i can't remember, would it make sense a functioning circuit like in the attachment? I had this question in an exam and really trouble me. The battery was 12v and the here asking for a total current if the circuit closes.
Any help and other circuits example will be helpful.

Sorry " if the switch closes"

 

There is a missing link in your "switch" connections. As of now, closing the switch does nothing.

Presuming that the switch is across R2, closing it "shorts" R2 and the total resistance in the circuit will be (R1 + R3) instead of (R1 + R3) + R2

What is the confusion?.... Or is your question something else ?

 

As I said maybe is my lack of understanding it. I thought that as R2 gets 0 Resistance it could have a different effect on the circuit.

 

Can you write the equations for current with the switch opened, and with it closed?
