If there is a thin layer of sheilding in between the RFIC and ESD gun would the ESD still reach the RFIC ?

 

If there is a thin layer of sheilding in between the RFIC and ESD gun would the ESD still reach the RFIC ?

By shielding, you mean ?
if its a grounded conducting shield that should shield you from the ESD strike
though current flowing int he shield could still cause a current in the rf circuit by capacative coupling.
if the shield is none conducting, then the esd will just jump straight through

 

May also depend on the shield material Dk value too. If the breakdown value is higher than the ESD value, it might not get through?
