Not a big deal. I have worked the ISS, and the Shuttle, when it was flying. You can receive signals from the ISS on a handy-talkie and a rubber ducky antenna...

The big deal for me is that the guy actually spoke with the crew

so have I. using a Yeasu ft870,, all of 5 watts out, on a vertical whip at home. I also talked to the first space shuttle ham, Dr. Owen Garriot while he was in space in the shuttle. get a ham liscense, the ISS crew is on the air often. they also send down pictures on a mode called SSTV or slow scan tv.
