I did a blog post about a little charger I built a couple of months ago. It is based on a circuit posted in a rather old thread on AAC. If someone around here thinks I explained something wrong or has any correction suggestions please contact me on my blog or just post here.

Mod: link deleted.

Thanks and all the best!

why did a mod delete the link to my blog post??? my whole post here does not make sense because all the details about the project are written down on my own blog. it's not just some spam link it's a valuable resource!

would you be so kind and please explain what's the reaseon for this mod reaction! thanks a lot!
Jojo

MOD: You cannot add an advertising link to your blog site, if you wish to post a Project, use the AAC Project Forum.

Since it is your blog, why not copy and paste to the "completed projects" subforum here?

People, myself included, are hesitant to click on links to personal blogs. There is no telling what they may contain.

I do not agree. If I would fix/change an image/some text or something else on my blog, I would have to fix it here as well!
Also the whole formatting would probably be messed up if I just copy/paste everything here. This is how the internet works. It's based on hyperlinks!
please do me a favor and leave the link intact. Anything else is not a good idea in my opinion!
Thanks and all the best!

this is the projects forum you are talking about right? or should i rather post it to the completed projects forum?

Hi Mods, I just read the guidlines for the "Completed Projects Collection" Subforum: https://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/threads/how-to-post-a-project-to-the-collection.3101/

At the moment I don't think it is possible for me to _rewrite_ my whole project here again, just to fit with your guidlines!

Please do me a favor and delete _this_ whole thread!

Thanks a lot and no worries, if I think I have the time I will rewrite my post according to your guidlines but now is not the time and also I don't fully agree with your guidlines at the moment and have to think about it...

thanks
Jojo

hi jojo,
You could use the Projects Forum to develop your project, when it is completed submit it for the Completed Projects Forum.

Hi Eric!
thank you very much for the reply but nobody here seems to fully understand my concern: My project is already finished and also documenting is finished already. I just wanted post it here (this is "The Projects Forum" ;-)) to help other people in the future. I do not want to write and format everything all over again in this boards format as it is a very detailed blog post on my very own blog. just copy/pasting here would ruin the format and I would have to redo the whole work, which I don't think makes much sense!

This is the link to my blog, there is no harmful content on there, just click on the link, but probably in a minute a Mod will have it removed from here

MOD: You are not allowed to post a link to your blog website.

So again I would like to ask the mods: Either you just remove this whole thread because it does not make sense without the link to my website or you just leave the link, so the whole thing makes sense!

Thanks a lot again!

Hello,

Start a new thread in the projects forum and copy the contents from your blog over here.
We want content to be stored on this site and not use external links, wich may dissapear over time.
This already caused a lot of threads render useless in the past.

I can’t understand your concern about publishing your project here. I’m not saying that you don’t have valid concerns; just that I don’t understand them.

I have faced a similar situation and did re-publish here. I did not have to spend a lot of time reformatting. I did not have to rewrite my entire post. I did not have any difficulty meeting project requirements. The entire process too about 15 minutes. That’s why I am having difficulty understanding.

And you don’t have to publish in Completed Prijecrs. Just post to the Projects sub-forum.

Don’t feel like you have to waste your time responding directly to me. It’s ok.

Hi Eric!
thank you very much for the reply but nobody here seems to fully understand my concern
We understand your concerns and they are legitimate. You need to understand ours. The owners of the site have established restrictions regarding links to external sites. In particular, site promotion is not allowed. If it were, then everyone and their entire family would join and post links to their blogs. We don't want that. In addition, third-party links tend to be ephemeral. The link to your project may not be valid a year from now or ten years from now when you might have moved your content or taken it down altogether for one reason or another. By having it archived on AAC's servers, that won't happen. We've provided the Projects and Completed Projects fora so that you have an alternative. One way to do it is to develop the project here and have AAC be the primary site and use a link in your blog to direct to it. That way the project and your contribution to the community will possibly survive you. We realize that this approach has burdens and may not be compatible with your goals, but that's the way it is and you are asked to abide by the ToS you agreed to. You are always free to find a different venue that better suits your needs.

Dear Mods WBahn and bertus, thanks for taking your time to explain your guidlines to me again. I get that and I will certainly get along with it. It's just a little frustrating that my intention to give something back to the AAC board (and certainly the whole internet!) is not as easy as I thought it is. Having AAC the main site for hosting my project is not an option, I am sorry. I understand your frustrations about links that disappear and leave threads useless. Just to explain that in my case there would be a difference: I recently switched my blogs address and I went to all the boards I ever posted anything from my blog and corrected the address in that original threads! Also there was some content accessible on google's and certainly after changing my blogs adress it didn't work - I also fixed that by configuring a transparent redirect from the blog's old address to the new one.

A lot of people probably wouldn't make the effort to do that because they don't care or they don't know how to do it and that's why you have to put up forum guidlines like this. I get that!

My initial approach actually was that I just do a quick "thank you post" containing a link to my blogpost to the original "very old 2008ish thread" but there was a warning that posting to old threads does not make sense to you and it will be reviewed. The post never showed up until now. Will it stay that way?

If I find the time to repost the whole content to the "Projects Forum" I will do. I just quickly tried to copy/paste stuff from my site over here to a draft post: Text formatting looks quite find but regarding pictures I have some questions:

* The link behind the thumbnail pics would link to my blogs website. Would that be allowed? Otherwise I would have to upload all the ~40 pics to here and then redo all the links. Sounds tedious to me....
* There are links to other websites too, for example where to buy certain needed materials. Would you remove them?

Thanks for getting back with answers in advance!

Hi @jpanhalt, well it's better than nothing thanks, but I can't seem to find this option in my profile settings.

I am about to copy over my blog post to the Projects Forum, it's not too easy to get it right: https://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/threads/the-charger-tape-a-button-cell-charger-circuit.160265/

Dear Mods: still the questions in my last post remain, maybe if you'd find the time...
Thanks a ton! We could further discuss in this thread here and not mess up the new one with replies about formatting and restricitions. At least that would be my suggestion. Thanks!

Dear Mods: I can't edit my newly created thread anymore because of an "editing time limit". It's not finished and I suppose not sufficient for your guidlines yet. Maybe you could help me with this one? Thanks a lot.

It is strongly preferred (perhaps even required by the Completed Forum guidelines -- @Wendy manages that forum) that all content be on AAC servers for the same reasons -- stability. What happens when you retire or expire?

I think (again, Wendy is the best source for an answer) that links to sources for components would be fine. If those links are to your site, that would be a different matter, especially if they are broadly-sourced components. Links to manufacturer's sites datasheets for them would certainly be allowed.

For a long time The Completed Projects forum was a dumping ground. Since it aligns with one of my key interests here on AAC I have taken ownership. Because an outside site can disappear with no notice ALL documentation must be on AAC. If AAC ever goes away I guess we are both screwed, We require schematics and source code (if applicable), and ask for pictures to prevent vaporware from being posted. Since I have taken control I feel the quality of the forum has improved. We allow You Tube videos, but they can not be the only documentation.

If you need help just ask. You can tag me in a post as @WBahn did and I will respond. Now I have to read this thread to see what is needed.

I am moving this thread back into the projects forum so you can clean up your presentation.
Start a new thread, where everything is hosted locally. If you nee help, Just ask me.

Side note: We also do not allow promotion of other sites (AKA self promotion).
Please read this:
How to post a project to the collection

If you do not follow the guidelines, well, you have already run into that wall.
