i had a thought to take social networking to physical layer, my idea is this....

Some kind of near field, say 1 meter communication or less, the device one day could be intergrated into phones...

Basically the device stores personal info, age, likes, dislikes, maybe interface with facebook? Or dating sites?... Now once the pocket device is activated a charge will last it quite some time, low power...

The clever part, with a gsm card, you could have the device beep off or sound an alert with possible matches of other people with the same device who share same interests as you...

*Discovering new friends with similar interests as you...
*Dating uses.
*Pyschical social networking in pubs and clubs
*interface with social networking sites
*applications for unencrypted short range, or encrypted

if in phones, apps can com/k with anyone else, intergrate it into facebook and you now have potential to alert you and them you're standing right next to a facebook associate and update your status automatically on facebook to say you just bumped into each other...User x has met user y (stat update ) eg eg...

fact is, it could all be fed from a usb cable, the device simply sounds an alert for a match, the other device would do the same so it should be easy to find a match, and only a match, 2 or 200 at say a footy match not an issue, due to short range fields...
