Hi, so I would like to develop a board that when a button is mechanically pressed (switched) it relays a signal to my cell phone allowing me to find it. Therefore on the phone end I would harness this signal to emit a light or sound. Anyone have any Blue Tooth experience they could shed on me? I am a university student working on a homing device for a small research product.

Thanks!!

Just a FYI..
Google Android Device Manager will find/ring your phone from anywhere in the world
Apple Icloud has the same functionality.

But in general you would need a bluetooth module with button and write all the code to pair/control the phone.

Yea basically I just need the function. Not to worry about the application. Just what sort of components would one need on this board.

A Pebble also works... The Dashboard app has a finder function, and if your phone is paired, it will have your phone making noise until you turn it off. It will also tell you things like how much battery and signal the phone has.
