Buying these parts is not an issue,I am looking for something for the projects kit list. Something that is readily accessible through something like Amazon , what I am looking for is NPN/PNP Complimentary pairs. Any recommendations out there?

 

Avoid whichever one is the current fad for making Fuzzfaces. They go for ten times what they are worth on Ebay.
There are plenty of Soviet era devices available especially from Bulgaria.

МП39Б is one of the most common and МП37Б is its complement.
There are several others with similar part numbers.
then there are ГТ402 and ГТ404 which are higher power.
They are all really slow.
