Hello I am new to electronics and I am thinking of doing a synthesizer project with a raspberry pi 5 and a 6581sid chip to make a synth. The RPI gpio pins are 3.3v and the sid pins require 5v. Could I use transistors that take 3.3v to trigger a high state and pass through 5v to trigger the sid pins? Can anybody tell me what transistor I would use? If not how do I step up the pi3.3v pins to 5v? Thanks.

Yes, you can use a transistor for the level shifting.

There are also level-translator ICs that do this for several channels.

How many channels do you need to shift?
