Battery charger ckt.

I have one in my motorhome that I don't understand. Why does it have a 600v. winding connected only to an electrolytic capacitor? Thru some research, I found something about that ckts purpose being to "tune" the ckt being rectified for the 12vdc battery charging ckt....It's beyond my basic electronics theory!

It's called a ferro-resonant transformer. Beyond my math, too, but you have the right idea. It is designed to keep the output voltage fairly stable, compared to nothing at all.

Not really cool, trick, stuff, but it works well enough for some applications.
