Mrel they're neither! In AGM electrolyte is absorbed into fiberglass mat so it's basically huge improvement on flooded LA technology!

So being specific, advantages of AGM over flooded LA are huge reduction of explosion hazard, total elimination of spill hazard, better surge capacity, much greater number of shallow discharge/recharge cycles, greater tolerance of deep discharge/recharge cycles compared to flooded batteries of same size/weight, better tolerance of mass forces/vibration (so also totally versatile gravitational orientation) better performance at low temps and overall longer service life!

So only disadvantages are they're still a little larger/heaver than flooded LAs of same capacity (but that's improving) and they're basically impossible to assess by measuring specific gravity of electrolyte (cuz electrolyte is absorbed and so unavailable to test with hydrometer). So speaking just personally I've exclusively used them in all my vehicles for years (which include highway vehicles, aircraft, speedboats, ATVs and sleds) IMO they're totally superior to flooded LAs for only abt 3X the price!
