Thank you for your life story, it sounds very interesting, I believe you did the right things at the right times.
I'm a retired motor mechanic, (Auto technician US).
We will all required updates on "The Chicken Run", maybe you could start a monthly magazine?
We would at least like to see the finished product on YouTube or even at the cinema, as long as you can cope with all the publicity.

Those (electron orbitals) were one of the attractions at our cinema too. What a coincidence!

Of course this story hasn't finished yet, a few parts have to arrive yet and only then I can finish the project. And yes, I will take pictures! At this stage it's only worth mentioning that a sewer cover has found a useful purpose. A few years ago somebody lifted this from a drain in the street and threw it through the window of our cinema. Maybe he had seen the movie already?

I kept it as I keep everything just in case that one day I need it and that was, yet again, a wise decision. For one Euro I bought a double BBQ grill and double means 'two' (yes, I have been to school too) so with a little bending of the handle I had 2 doors. The metal is thick enough to withstand any force and it's open structured of course so good for some extra ventilation in the coop. However, with the pulleys in place, the actuator and the cable the doors are a bit on the light side so I had to fatten them up a bit somehow. It had to be something small and heavy, like the tip of a hammer. So I grinded the sewer cover in a few pieces and attached it to the grill with component glue. Now the cable inside is tighter and there is less chance that one of the hens will get entangled. The doors also slide beautifully.

Haven't forgotten you all at all (!) but right now the country (which is in sort of a lock down) is 'celebrating' the 3 Kings (who?) and the last parcel has not been delivered. They just entered 'incomplete information' in their system so it's siesta/fiesta. Can't finish the project until I get the last bit!

220V - 12V converter in the middle, relay on the right, next to it the electronic unit from the NOT made in China light sensor and some terminal blocks (to connect 3 coops) and on the left the last actuator.

When I hold my hand over the light sensor the actuator rod goes walk about and retracts when exposed to light. I honestly feel I can now apply for a job at NASA! I may need some references later. If so I will leave a message here.

After 100 days of straight sunshine, winter has come out of nowhere, very hard wind, rain and it's freezing cold so for the moment the stuff on the table will just stay there!

When all is set up I will take some pictures of the 'system' but I will wait for the weather to clear up first, too fricking cold!

Meanwhile I want to thank you all very much but especially Anniel. You are annoying because you don't provide straight answers and force people to read/think/do it all over again but your approach is the best really. You'd make a great teacher! (And I mean that!)

You'll need to explain that! I know that Canada has no states but provinces (comparable to the Netherlands) but just Quebec is 40 times the size of the Netherlands so their flag has more significance than a provincial flag in that small European country. The red is the national flag of course but why is that 'better' ('though that could change')?

The UK is just like Holland, as soon as your toes are no longer frozen people are talking about a heat wave! That's one of the reasons we headed south. Spain however may record the highest snowfall ever (today or tomorrow). I HATE winter!

We went to the Canaries 3 times but never found an affordable, nice (no apartment!) place to live. It's just hotels and apartments there and expensive villa's.

I don't mind finding out why the Chinese sensor (one remains intact) doesn't work. Maybe I can fix that but the present cell works beautifully so once the rains stop I can fix the coop and it won't be necessary to wake up so early anymore.

Because I know now this solution works I can try hooking up another cell with an another actuator and a relay (got a spare one) and at the (now closed) business I've got a 220/12V converter too. At least I know the wiring etc works so testing will be a lot easier.

 

Presently the Canadian government is coping fairly well with COVID, the Quebec provincial counterpart no so well.

Well, yesterday's winners are todays losers. Most countries in Europe are in some state of lock down but the numbers don't come down anymore or hardly at all. The UK is breaking all records, Germany (which did well) has become a nightmare too and it goes on and on. Every day it's either bad news or very bad news. I suppose many are so fed up with it that they have become immune, to the bad news that is. And so they don't even try to comply with today's laws or regulations. My only hope is a vaccine that works now. Personally I have given up on everything else. I am not saying I disagree with the measures at all but it's no use anymore. It's up to the poor souls who work in the hospitals now. Unfortunately not a single government (except China and a few more) did what it was supposed to do but killing an elephant with a fly swatter is utterly useless. Vaccinations have just started but we are also at the start of winter so ......

I thought it always rains in the UK. Whenever I see the satellite images from the weather forecast there's a UK shaped cloud over the UK.

Yes and that will make it even worse as 2 weeks ago it was Christmas, followed by the New year's 'celebrations'. That's what we are seeing now.
