Well I finally did what I should've done in the first place: I bought a $10, 27MHz RC car from Walmart and I'm gutting it for the receiver, and installing a latching switch in the controller.

I believe you got ripped off target has them for $1,24MHz

 

Range? Most of those remote cars have a range line of sight of about 50 to 100 feet.

Did you mean $10, 2.4GHz? I didn't want 2.4GHz, they had some at Walmart too. I'm not concerned with long range and sometimes those cheap toys have trouble pairing with the 2.4GHz band. And especially since 2.4GHz is so much more common now, 27MHz will probably have less risk of interference now-a-days.

Then run with it. As long as the range meets your needs.
