so, i'm stuck, i wanted to design an led driver circuit schematic that has 220VAC mains and uses supercapacitors to store power incase of an emergency power shutdown/ load-shedding but will stay lit when the power is on and when the power is off and at the same time, i could easily turn off the lamp from the switch.

any suggestions on the kind of ICs i should use?

any help will be appreciated, thanks alot.

A quick estimate shows 270 Farads at 5 volts will run a red LED while the current diminishes from 20 ma to 10 ma across 5 hours or (5) cells rated at 1.2 volts each with a capacity of 100 ma-hours.

(36) 7.5 F caps at $6.20 each ($223.20) or 5 AA nicads?
Pick one.
