It look(ed|s) to me like the top connector has long pins being stood off by the black parts. But I can’t be sure one way or the other.Looks to me like the pins are there. Bottom one soldered onto the board and top one plugged into the bottom one.
I thought that originally as well but decided that headers sans pins could be used as a spacer for a component with long leads. Those appear to be breakable .1” headers with the pins pulled out. The angle of the photo doesn’t let me be sure but I have done similar things. The pins are easily pulled from the body of the header.
If they aren’t it surely looks like the idea would work in any case.
