Anyone have an idea what this is?

To me it looks a lot like an electronics experimenters learning center. I got one from Radio Shack a long time ago and it had three variable resistors, a Double Pole Double Throw switch, LED's with resistors, amp meter, speaker and a bunch of other stuff. I'm guessing this device is a learning tool from back in the early days of electricity and electronics.

The pot in the middle? Read the resistance from the two end terminals. The wiper in the middle just selects a variable range of resistance. Whether it's linear taper or an audio taper pot we can't know. Not unless someone has one just like it. I don't.

I also thought it is some sort of antique medical device.

The nearest I could find is here.
AFAIK: ECT units are still in production - several people are referring to a quack medical device with gas filled glass electrodes that glow violet with high voltage-high frequency pulses.

Seems like it was a forerunner to what today we call a TENS Machine. They used one on me following shoulder therapy after surgery.
