Hi Guys,

Back again after more help sorry...

One of the students I'm working with wants to make an amplifier for his landline at home because his dad's hearing impaired.

Anyone got any ideas how I can make a 'normal' landline telephone into one that has a bit louder volume in the earpiece?

Any ideas/pointers/circuit diagrams gratefully received.

Hello,

A long time ago there where pieces for sale that could be mounted on the earpiece of the phonehorn.
In the piece there was a microphone a little amplifier and a speaker in a seperate chamber.
The Mic picked up the sound the amplifier made it stronger the speaker let you hear it louder.
There was a knob on the side of the piece to regulate the volume and switch the piece off, to save batteries.

I always like the suction cup magnetic pickups myself.

 

Most modern phones have a volume control for the earpiece. Buy one.

 

Thanks guys, but I'm working with some students at a local school who need to build circuits and one of them wanted to build an amplifier for his dad's phone...if he buys one he won't pass his course as he has to be seen to make the circuitry (sorry don't know if that's a word )

 

Radio Shack still sales the telephone pickup, you attach this to a audio amp and you have instant amplification....

You'll need to disassemble the handset to get at the wires for the earpiece. Use them as an input for the circuit in the lesson. Or use the part Bill Marsden suggested.
