K-mart just brought back the Layaway option about a year ago. The pendulum swings!
I haven't been in a store in years - I saw it on the news. I just looked up on their website and couldn't believe they still have that horrible color scheme!

The phone lines probably won't work since the switching office needs to talk to the main office (over internet).

 

And when the Central Office loses control, the problem is quickly identified as you can only call locally (within the exchange) but not other exchanges or long distance.

I think the cell towers will respond in a similar manner ... if they work at all.

Another anomaly is that people still wear 500yr old technology on their wrist to tell time, but modern youth now are unaccustomed to the time telling terms, due to obtaining time off a phone.
So as one person told me his grandson did not understand when he told him it was twenty five minutes to one.

SCSI protocol

I still use a SCSI port on my equipment at work. It's about the only port fast enough for MS data. It also uses a 10 Base-T coax for the GC.

 

Token Ring: HP had a token ring protocol that they named (which I forget) to connect instruments together. Their SCSI protocol was called HPIB (National Instruments renamed it GPIB).
