another 4066 question: switching between signal A and B?

Hello AAC-brain...

So, I understand how to use the 4066 to switch on signals, but how would I go about using the 4066 to switch between signals? As in, I would have two sources in and the switch should let through only one of those...

I imagine something like using a signal inverter to the control of the 2nd switch?

As in, when I feed the first switch a control signal of 1, the second one gets a 0, or the opposite..

Or is there a better way?

Hello,

The scheme with the inverter between two the two switches will work.
You could also have a look at the 4053 wich has 3 change over switches.

Ooh, thanks.. that does seem a bit easier..

Judging from the datasheet, the 4053 also just needs a 1 signal to switch on, right?

Hello,

Yes. there is one signal for each of the three switches.
There is also an inhibit signal to disable the signal at all.

interesting.. hmmmhmhm...

first i drew this:4053switcvhim.png

but seeing it here makes me think that it should be enough to do this:

The lower schematic will work fine, but needs help.

All unused inputs should be grounded.
The two unused outputs can be left floating.
Add a decoupling capacitor across Vdd and Vss.

What you do with Vee depends on the + and - peak voltages of the input signals.

Two L's, one A.

thanks everyone (again)... i breadboarded and of course it works.

for now i have ignored VEE completely.. my input signals for testing were two 40106-based oscilaators. i don't know the peak voltages. i'm running everything off a 9v battery. for triggering i'm using this:

R: 100k
C: 100nF
