I don't see why this is surprising. I make hard boiled eggs so rarely I almost always look up the cooking times. Plus people are always coming up with better ways to get the shell not to stick.

I find some of the other stats far more surprising. 21% are not comfortable with changing a light bulb? 35% are not comfortable with sewing a button? 38% uncomfortable on unblocking a sink? That is sad.

Can you share some tricks on getting the shell off the hard boiled eggs? :)
Sometimes they pop right off. Other times chunks are ripped right out.:(
The little love dumpling tells me it's how old the eggs are.

Nope. That is why I need to look it up every time. :)

They should try this in Florida or Texas.

Nothing new. It's Oakland.

I remember when I was at a conference in San Francisco . The company booked me into an European style hotel which means no AC. you don't really need AC in San Francisco any time of the year , just open a window and you will have your AC. But I was in a big city in a room with a fire escape. I did not feel comfortable with leaving the window open but it was too hot to sleep. That first night I went for a walk (in those years it was safe to walk around much of down town at night, lots of people around) and noticed a Holiday Inn on Powell Street. Why I did not just stop in I don't know but went back to the room and called. The lady that answered informed be that the room was a few dollars cheaper than I was paying plus it was free parking. The total price came under my per diem so I booked a room. Next day I checked out of my room. I went to check in at the Holiday Inn but they did not have my reservation! We finally figured out I booked at the Holiday Inn in Oakland on Powell St! The rooms in SF were more expensive plus they did not have a room! They ended up getting me a room. I figured I would have to eat the difference to my per diem but I explained the situation to my boss when I got home and the company covered my roo, ;)

BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN) — A Beaverton man who has spent years working to prove red light cameras are setting drivers up for tickets they can’t avoid is in the midst of a legal battle over whether the State of Oregon owns a particular word.
...
He was fined $500 for “unlicensed practice of engineering”, even though he says clients at his electronics business don’t require or even care if he’s licensed. He could face further punishment if he continues to call himself an engineer and talks about his research.

According to the suit, the state board has initiated similar "outrageous'' investigations against others for using the word "engineer,'' including Portland City Commissioner Dan Saltzman:

-- In 2014, the board received a complaint that the Voters' Pamphlet described Salatzman's background as "environmental engineer.'' Saltzman earned a bachelor of science degree in environmental and civil engineering from Cornell University, a master of science degree from MIT School of Civil Engineering and membership in the American Society of Civil Engineers. He isn't, however, an Oregon-licensed professional engineer. The board investigated, and nearly a year later, voted to warn Saltzman against using the word "engineer" in incorrect ways, according to board meeting minutes.

Canada is launching an experiment that will give 4,000 people free money until 2020

In general, however, the data seem to tilt in basic income's favor. One study, published in late 2016, found people who received unconditional cash transfers used vices like drugs and alcohol less frequently than people who didn't receive the money. And though it's easy to assume free money would make people lazy, research suggests the opposite is true. People in one 2013 study actually worked 17% longer hours and received 38% higher earnings when getting a basic income.

MNSFW. Does this man have even a shred of dignity left?

Ayn Rand in Atlas Shrugged said:
Dr. Ferris did nothing, he merely looked at Dr. Stadler calmly; but the calm gave him an air that was almost patronizing. "Now, you see, Dr. Stadler, you're speaking as if this book were addressed to a thinking audience. If it were, one would have to be concerned with such matters as accuracy, validity, logic, and the prestige of science. But it isn't. It's addressed to the public. And you have always been the first to believe that the public does not think. He paused but Dr. Stadler said nothing.

Oxymoron -> 'Free Money'. A free money program online is a SCAM but because it's Canada it's not a SCAM? It's called stealing from X to give to Y in return for votes.
