You guys are making me feel old.
While on a nostalgia kick, who remembers vacuum tubes (not the electronic variety)/pipes in dept stores to send cheques/cash etc to the accounting dept.
Also maybe in the same store, a piece of equipment used in sizing an article of dress, that was banned due to health risks?

Ans:
The shoe self sizing X-ray machine.

The famous Las Vegas Underground House is only 2 miles east of the center of the Las Vegas Strip. This unique 14,620 sqft concrete & steel doomsday bunker was designed to survive cataclysmic events in comfort. The Bunker looks like a large home in a yard with pool, spa, trees, guest house, BBQ & fountain and is surrounded by 500 linear feet of floor to ceiling Murals of city & mnt views with lighting that simulates day, dusk & dawn.

Maybe to not this degree (well I guess I never saw the other end) but I do remember store clerks using these in large department stores. That was also back in the day of elevator operators (if anyone remembers them).

Those vacuum tubes are still used in this area at banks and drugstores for drive up windows.

I also vaguely remember a shoe X-ray at a local store but I might be conflating my memory.

But I do remember penny scales for certain. I say day they eliminated the penny scale was the day the country started going to hell. ;)
Yup, I remember the foot x-ray machine as well. They weren’t too reliable and many a foot was burnt.

You never watched The Stand???? Next to The Shinning Kings best movie by far. The Stand is actually a mini seris, so if you want to watch the whole thing at one sitting, set out some extra popcorn! . ;)

BTW the book is excellent too. And the benefit is you won't need to go to the gym to work out when you are reading it. ;)

To my thinking both the mini series and book were extremely boring, almost as bad as It. Glad I didn't stop reading King with that book.
Green Mile is the one best movie, that follows the book, of any of the ones by Steven King.
Normally, turning books into movies doesn't work that well ... from any author. Although I do consider The Shining a masterpiece, with due credit given to its Director

A lot of Kings early books seem like he got paid by the word, and that gets boring fast, at least to me. Shawshank and lean on me were pretty good both the books and movie. The Mr. Mercedes ones made a good TV series and the books were OK too.

I COMPLETELY disagree. The mini series was excellent. Maybe a bit corny at times. But a lot of Kings movies are kind of quirky. I think Ray Waltson was a huge mistake in casting. I think he was a major source of the corny part of the series. I do admit it was a bit long. I could have probably been done in a 2 hour movie.

I can't see how The Shining and Misery aren't at the top of anyone's list. Even if you aren't a big King fan, it is hard not to like those two. I think the only other movie that an actor creeped me out more than Nicholson was Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs.
