Anyhow I just received a text from HP giving me heads up on all this.

So I'm posting abt it here cuz I won't be available to logon and watch my PM for awhile yet! So this way @Hypatia's Protege can follow up here on my behalf!

So anyhow if someone totally insists on discussing this in private plz PM @Hypatia's Protege (w/ me included as party to conversation) cuz if you only PM me I might not see it for a long time:oops:! But since @Hypatia's Protege is vry busy putting EHT meter presentation together she says she logs on almost every day now!

    So here's point of post:
@Aleph Null since your username is vry close to mine (same meaning and common pronunciation) I'm asking you to PLEASE change it ASAP!

So o/c I don't have like _intellectual property rights_ in my UN and I don't think there's anything in AAC TOS prohibiting vry similar usernames. But I've been active member on here for like 4 years and earning respect and trust of _active kernel_ has been major struggle 4 me cuz of like _generation gap_ (which is nobody's fault just human nature:rolleyes::)). Anyhow the similarity of our UNs can raise suspicions that UNs are _puppets_ (by which I mean multiple UNs used by single member or shared UNs and other childish games) which isn't good for EITHER of us being taken seriously:(! Also since a lot of ppl pronounce _Aleph(0)_ as _Aleph Null_ it has definite potential for causing confusion:(!

So this isn't demand cuz I don't have that authority on here! But I would definitely consider it a HUGE favor if you'd just change your UN enough so it has different meaning or at least different common pronunciation:)!

Also just so u know I'm NOT accusing you of _trolling_ me or anything like that! Actually I'm vry happy seeing other _Cantor disciples_ active on here:cool:!

PS @Aleph Null If u are member of EHT (Alpha, development or core-development) teams or enthusiastic reader HUGE thanks for registering! But plz use more unique UN please:)!

Please, that's a stretch. It's gona be a beautiful day. No one would mistake a real zero for Null.

BR-549 FWIW when I studied set theory most ppl I knew pronounced it _Aleph Sub Naught_ (which I'm cool with cuz _naught_ is old-world word for _zero_).

But a lot of ppl also pronounce it _Aleph Null_ (which o/c is improper cuz _null_ means _empty_ which is not the same as subscript _0_ )!

So anyhow two UNs that to a lot of ppl (right or wrong) have same meaning and pronunciation are totally likely to cause confusion and also _stoke_ suspicions of ppl who look on me as stereotypical product of my generation:oops::rolleyes:

It's just potential hassle I don't need right now:(! Also since @Aleph Null hasn't made any posts yet, I say asking him/her to change UN isn't unreasonably burdensome. But I'd still consider it MAJOR favor:)!

@Aleph(0) Would a new member's user name of Aleph(1) bother you?
    Just curious.

@Aleph(0) I can understand how you feel about this, I've had similar experiences.

But, whether anything can be done about it is largely based on the goodwill of the person and the culture of the group. If not, uncomfortable as it is, you will probably just have to move on about it. It may turn out to be a non-issue, if the person is not active, or isn't active in the same discussions.

In any case, I am quite confident you can manage to differentiate yourself from any other similarly named user.

    Good luck.

So anyhow @Hypatia's Protege gave me heads-up abt responses on here saying it's more appropriate for me to answer them personally and looking on them I totally agree! But just so everybody knows if I'm not back on AAC for a few more weeks it's not me being _standoffish_ just vry busy with totally boring off-line responsibilities:rolleyes: So I'll be vry happy when I'm back here on regular basis again:)!

@MrChips Tnx for response but _Aleph(1)_, or being general, Aleph(n) {n|n≠0} would be WAY worse:eek:! Cuz even though meaning is different I say _textual proximity_ can cause more confusion than just _phonetic proximity_!
Also other problem with vry similar or apparently _related_ usernames is it creates impression that users have real world connection or on-line collaboration (so for example _Ghostman_ and _Little Ghostman_ also _AudioGuru_ and _FriendlyGuru_) which is totally ok when they actually DO have acknowledged association and related UNs are ok with both parties (which as far as I know is totally case with examples:cool:). But when it's total stranger it just causes confusion and suspicion to other members:(!

So anyhow, @MrChips I'm not asking for special consideration, just FAVOR from @Aleph Null:) Cuz after all, policies that gave members exclusive _1'st come 1'st served reservation_ to everything closely related to their UN would definitely be slippery slope which would be vry hard to enforce:eek:!

ElectricSpidey Tnx! It's nice 2 know my nasty text-habit:oops: and faux numpty-speak are good for something:D!

    Yaakov UR2 funny:rolleyes::D!

Joeyd999 being serious there have been a few zero-post _Alephxxxx_ usernames over the years (some of who joined b4 me!) but nothing as synonymous as _Aleph Null_! So abt _joeyd11ph_ even though I get that ur just being _wise alec_ I still say don't worry abt it:)! Now if user named _Joeyd999LuvsAOC_ is created then u totally have my sympathy:p!

Yaakov Tnx! I totally agree that it's 100% based on goodwill of @Aleph Null! Cuz after all I'm not 1'st member to use _Alephxxxx_ name on here so it's like @Hypatia's Protege is always saying I don't want to raise myself by own petard:eek:!

Yaakov I totally hope so! So that's another reason I started this thread (by which I mean to publicly disclaim identity and association with @Aleph Null) But just so everybody knows, it's possible @Aleph Null is newly registered member from our _EHT teams_ in which case I'm _associated_ but don't know it yet:rolleyes:

Shortbus ru saying JC should change his user name to like _HP'sP_ for like _Hypatia's protege's protege_:eek:;)?

So being 100% serious huge thanks to everyone for reading and responses:cool:!

FWIW we have no idea who @Aleph Null is nor any info in regards to his/her connection:confused: --- I believe @Aleph(0)'s point was merely that, inasmuch @Aleph Null has made no posts as of yet, s/he has nothing 'invested' in said user on this site -- and, hence, nothing to lose by merely abandoning his/her existing user then registering another having a less 'ambiguous' name (with proper notification to/permission from site staff of course):)

    Very best regards
    HP:)

I'm just poking fun at Aleph, and her VPN troubles. This whole thing since the person isn't active here , seems to be a 'big to do' about nothing. It would make a good Seinfeld episode.

That'd be my fault:oops: -- When '@Aleph Null' 'popped up' as an option during entry of @Aleph(0)'s username, I thought it advisable to let her know -- 'A stitch in time' and all that...

    Or indeed worthy of Stratford-upon-Avon:D

    Best regards

I doubt 'Alophia' will trouble @Aleph(0)!:D -- That said, she received a not-inconsiderable volume of politically-themed 'hate mail' when 'Aleppo' was 'in the news' a while back:eek: --- Said circumstance bearing out my long held conviction that 'there are no fools to match the 'mathematically challenged' in STEM settings':rolleyes:o_O

OMG! Since I had like 5 _credible_ death threats over that, consulate advised me to increase personal security! So like 3 armed goons escorting me everywhere (plus two more following in another car and outside my home 24/7) for like two monthso_O! So no aspersions on private security ppl but being totally honest I'm not 100% sure they didn't make me jumpier than threats:rolleyes:! Anyhow if someone was totally intent on _taking me out_ best any guards can do is make sure they get caught AFTERWARDS which I say is cold comfort (pun intended)

Anyhow that's another thing I totally like abt AAC! Since you don't publish email and real names I know problem was NOT from anyone on here:)!
