Opps, I did it again I fell and broke my hip Tuesday, I spent yesterday at the ER all day.

How I did it was stupid, I won't do it again.

Break dancing can leave a mark. I have to watch my 90 year old mother. She lives with me and she has Alzheimer's and Dementia. Some days she doesn't even know who I am, other days I feed her and then I'll take the plate away and she will ask for more food! I'll try to give her something else and she will say "you just fed me". I know how frustrating this can be.
There are those of us who understand....... Your not alone as long as your here.

My thoughts will be with you. Not much else that I can do from 1500 miles away. My Mom did it in reverse, her hip broke and then she fell. She was 90 at the time.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. My neighbor recently fell off his boat, which was on dry land at the time, and broke his hip. He's made it through the walker phase and is now walking with a cane. It's a huge inconvenience and the thing to focus on is not letting it derail your health.

It has been an interesting day. I recently broke the pick up 3' reach tool I had bought from a local Harbor Freight store, They are very flimsy and very cheap (around $4), so I got 2. Thing is, whenever DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) Paratransite delivers me somewhere it becomes a point in their database, most of my trips are for doctors or medical treatments. The exceptions have been Walmart, and now, Harbor freight. I think of these points as anchor points (that I can refer to later). I turns out Harbor Freight (abbreviated to HB from now on) shares the strip mall with all sorts of interesting places, a medical supply business that could potentially service my powered wheelchair if the need ever arises, Along with an Alti grocery store, Nail salons, and a threading salon. The latter two are places only a woman would love (and I do!), My point is This the first of many future anchor point I have found I can use for pleasure. It opens my eyes to other possibilities. A very good day indeed.I can now address needs I only wished for. HB is a nerd candy store, I mean, milling machines and lathes, in the same room as 1KW solar cell banks, what is not to love!?

I'm going back tomorrow to repair a ripped thumbnail that is slowly tearing off into the quick.

All in all, a great day

I made my first visit to Harbor Freight last week, and only purchased what I went there for/ I bought a "pole chain saw" because I have a long dead branch 25 feet up in a large maple tree and no place to put a ladder to reach for cutting it where the ladder will not get hit y the falling branch. And I do not want to fall even 20 feet tumbling with a ladder and big dead branch. So it will be the pole chainsaw with a 20 foot extension pole and a bit of engineering to be able to keep it under control. At least that is my intention.
The Harbor freight place is indeed quite something, but they mostly had tools that I already own or seriously don't need.
So keep on fighting the bugs and injuries, Wendy, and keep in mind that you do have friends on your side.

Good luck!
I have a pole chain saw, and the law of mechanics come into play.
You lift/elevate the chain saw, which by the very nature is VERY top heavy, so you rest it on the limb that you require to sever, at the point of severance the top heavy saw now tends to follow the falling bough, if you are already extended by means of a ladder, now the decision is required as to whether try to stop the impending descent of the saw which has the tendency to convince you to follow it off the ladder, or just let it go and watch crash to the floor below.!

Max, My plan is to securely extend the pole and do the work from the ground. This will indeed require at least one additional stablizing cable attached a bit below the saw head and anchored well at the ground end. Probably two cables so as to steady the thing properly.
And the secret of not dropping a saw is to have a safety line so that it can't fall far.

I know you will be doubly careful in the future. You are getting near the age that a broken hip is a life-changing event on its own S, not just a footnote to a stroke. Will you be able to get around the house on your own in a wheelchair?

My grandmother broker her hip and spent many weeks unable to get out of bed. For the following 20 years she described the period as the worst time of her life. I hope it is not as hard on you. Is it?

Nope, I cam describe this paralysis in general like that. The broken hip is surprisingly manageable.

Good luck Wendy. I was very surprised when my 90 YO grandfather broke his hip. He was up and at it again within 2 weeks at the convalescent home we put him in after a few days at the hospital recovering from the implant. I guess it's a mental thing and there was no holding that old rascal back. Get better soon!

Many times I feel like such a fraud, I started a thread to learn MCUs, I'm feeling totally inadequate to the task. If I don't try I won't learn. So , I gotta try. Doesn't mean I will though.

I fell again last Monday, doing a maneuver I've done literally hundreds of times. The nice firemen picked me up and set me on the edge of the bed. Nothing damaged, not even a bruise. Funny thing, as I lay on the floor right after the fall, I felt if I tried I could pull myself up again. I couldn't, of course, but as I become more capable my confidence increases, Sometimes beyond my common sense. Go figure

Still figuring that one. You never know when one of your abilities will return. I'm glad this latest fall didn't wreck anything. Any idea if having these two falls so close together in time indicates a trend or change?

In many way I'm like a toddler, When I make a mistake, I learn from it and try not to repeat it. My last fall I had my shoe on, If my foot gets restrained by a front wheel on my manual wheel chair I can't tell, so from now on its shoe off when I'm standing to transfer to/from bed to from manual wheelchair. On my powered wheelchair it is not safe to stand period. S0 I scoot onto and off that chair sideways. I can stand safely in my manual chair, so I do(hence the pictures). I'm slowly coming to accept I may never walk again. I had to do this for my mental health, still don't like it though. It was also after midnight when I fell, So a 10PM bedtime is required. When I get overtired accidents are more likely. So I adjust. When I was healthy I was a night owl. I can not afford that luxury any more. I try to get up at 8AM instead, I don't always succeed but I try.

Been an interesting month, released a new article,

Making an uninterruptible +5VDC Power Supply

Looks like it will spin off some new threads. What they will say, I haven't written yet.

A couple of weeks ago while writing it, I realized I had forgotten the resistor divider formula. Forgetting this equation is right up there with forgetting Ohm's Law in my book. It is so basic in my tech training, that I felt like I was seriously loosing it, fortunately Wikipedia came to the rescue. I have had an unfortunate reacquaintance with IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome along with the pain and other bad side effects. Gives me something to argue with my doctor over later. C'est la vie.

As always I'm hunting for new ideas I can write about. So if you have one feel free to suggest away, I might not do it but I'll think about it.

Anyhow, y'all have a wonderful day!

Viberzi is my new best friend so tell me about it. Everyplace I went I made sure I knew where the rest rooms were and I actually carried a bag in my truck with a change of clothes. The Viberzi does help and no side effects for me. The Co-Pay is expensive till I meet my deductible and every year my doctor needs to petition the insurance company just so I can start it again. There are also other drugs to treat IBSD but with the Viberzi it works well for me, most of the time. Loperamide is another good and much less expensive drug but it never worked well for me. I take 100 mg morning and 100 mg evening. Watch your diet also. You have my sympathy on that note as it sucks. Wishing you all the best and good luck. Hope you have good health insurance.

Wow, it must be tough having to adjust to all of these challenges. If it’s any help, some people who’ve known you for some time are still here rooting for you!
