So I got a new keyboard, after trying again. It was worth the effort, I'm typing on it now. I'm deep into making a 3D drawing for E24 resistor shelves, I had forgotten how much fun Sketchup can be. It keeps me focused and busy. Been sick last couple of days, I try not to let it slow me down. Gut issues. My daughter has proved she cares on this one. I hate being a baby (diapers and worse). I think this new keyboard will make writing much easier and more fun. I do love to write and talk. I like to joke no mere stroke can shut me up.

So, I have reinstalled my OS,Win7 Ultimate on this old decrepit Lappie (Dell Latitude E6400) to get rid of the not genuine nag.
It worked, but it will take me a few days to recover all my files and software, If I ever do. Sometimes the trauma is worth it.

Wendy, I wish you success on recovering the files. I have two of the old HP laptops and twice now the one has been unable to boot and unable to be repaired, and each time as I had decided to reload the whole OS. win7, suddenly the beast starts working quite well, without other than the serious thread of a new OZ reload. Go figure on that one.
Presently I have been searching for a multi-page paper I wrote covering a whole lot about soldering and what it was and how it works. This was for a friend who was wanting to learn about soldering and understand what was happening. So it was quite detailed.
Unfortunately that file seems like it must be on the hard drive that was on my XP computer that somehow died when I had a direct lightning hit on my radio tower, that came into the house and damaged things, the one Dell computer being the most inconvenient thing damaged. And since I refuse to organize my files the way microsft wants them organized, recovering all of them may not happen. It just does not make any sense to put all the important stuff in a location easily found by every virus written by the millions of folks who hate microsoft for what it is and what it has done.

I am doing very wel as to attitude. Being able to get out and about has made a hug difference. Successfully installing, or in my lappies case, reinstalling Win7 and validating both using a key code has been a real confidence boost, I even made a Linux mint Live! thumb drive to remove some problem files left over from the reinstall. Another confidence booster. I also cleared 4 Gig off my HD. They were what was left of my old OS, and Windows would not let me delete the now defunct files. Linux had no problems with it. I really should play in Linux more. Ant how went to my roommates birthday party. And stood up from my manual chair so they could take my picture.

OK Wendy, and really good, as well. Overcoming challenges successfully is a great feeling and a good confidence builder, for sure. Quite probably it will be the end of me some day, after taking on something in full confidence that I can do it, and then having it all go wrong. But Oh Well. Computers have always been an area of some challenge for me, and while I can handle the hardware part quite well, fighting the thousands of demons embedded in windows has always been rather painful. Right now, on several of my computers, there are areas where windows will not let me enter. Very strange and also a pain.
I hope that you continue to improve and look forward to your input on the various threads.

Very good. Windows needs to act as though you don't know what you are doing but Linux giives you more respect. Still, getting Mint running my hat is off to you,

Standing on one leg is hard for me as well, holding on to something makes it a lot easier. The balancing requires that a whole bunch of ankle muscles work in perfect harmony, and that is a big deal for a lot of us.

But keep up on working at it, that is the only way to succeed. And I wish you the very best.

My daughter, the doctor of physical therapy, has taught me about proprioception, our sixth sense or simply "balance". Here's an introductory article:

The most important thing from a PT perspective is that it can be improved. I saw a presentation about balance problems for the elderly and the hip fractures that can result. The speaker reinforced the point that the problem is not weak bones, it's weak muscles and poor balance that result from a sedentary lifestyle. Keep dancing.

Years ago no problem but today if I ever have to take a field sobriety test I would flunk. My balance is not what it once was. :)

That is right on target. My wife is having PT following a knee, femur bone and hip replacement. Following the surgery there was a week in the hospital with a brace followed by 5 weeks in a PT care center. After 6 weeks following the surgery the brace came off and at 71 she is really improving with the PT at home. Fortunately all of her care givers, physical and occupational have been nothing short of great! You may wish to pass on to your daughter that Kathy and Ron love her. :) Her femur was literally eaten by cancer so we know more radiation is on the way. Along with more therapy.

Wendy our thoughts have been with you throughout this entire ordeal and your hard work has been paying off. Things return, albeit slowly but things do return. My wife's biggest problem is how slowly the nerves return but with more hard work you will beat this thing. It's a long process but with good PT it works. No breaking the rules just do as they tell you. This is where Wendy's tenacity pays off. Wishing you all that is good and hang tight.

I am trying very hard to get back into Dallas MakerSpace, I used to be one of the regulars there. I was not the strangest member by far. Sometimes I feel like such a fraud, but I have done quite a bit in the last 60+ years. In my youth I was a know-it-all, but age has humbled me a bit. Now I love hanging around people smarter thjan me in the hopes of some of it rubbing off, it seems to work. I also explains why I spend so much time on AAC. When I see somebody being obnoxious on the forum, I have but to think back to my youth. That doesn't mean I cut them any slack though.

I am working on 3D printedE24 (24 pieces per decade) resistor storage shelfs/trays.While I will offer the plans for free I may sell them through the market place forum. For a small extra fee I might even stock it with resistors. The one I created years ago with zip lock bags has certainly come in handy for me.

Ethically doing something like this might be wrong , but I will get permission first. I need a new Lappie, it is not as easy saving as it used to be. There are other venues that might be interested. Knowing the Chinese they will undercut me anyway if there is even half a market.

Everything I have read about it is really positive stuff. Pretty cool really. I shared a PM with Wendy which brings us to:
Tried to "start a conversation" and it does not work. Send me an email and I will respond with my message. Not urgent.
I wonder why that didn't work? Normally starting a conversation is no problem. Let me see if I can make one happen.

It has been a busy 2 weeks. It started when I accidentally erased The Complete Project Index I created in the Completed Projects Forum. Still not sure what I did. I was having brain farts long before this stroke, so this fart was on me. I made it once, I made it again, with a little help from The Way-back Machine website. In doing so, I made an interesting discovery, I can now make sense of the BB code. Right after the stroke it was gibberish to me, I stopped maintaining this Index day one of the stroke, I have 3 years of catching up to do. Only someone who is as OCD as I would be willing it seems. So another front I have recovered lost ground from.I did this originally because I wanted something like an Electronics Cookbook like my collage library had. I fell in love with the concept. I am always open to new categories and moving the entries around to improve it. AAC has a cookbook, and I helped create it.
