I find myself in a very introspective mood. For me this was a very bad week, but I survived it so I guess it wasn't that terrible . I find occasionally I fight thoughts of self harm. This was such a week. I spent Thanksgiving alone which is part of the problem. I don't expect Xmas to be much different. But I do what I can to make the people around me have a much better day. Right after this stroke I turned into a major witch with a B. I spent a lot of last week making doctor's appointments which for me is hell on earth. I only have one more left for this month. I spend my Saturdays drinking cognac and Brandy. Which I have found to be a major stress reliever. I'm more or less keep my 3D printer working 24 hours a day. Which is another stress reliever for me. As an idea pops into my head I turn it into plastic. The one thing I would like to figure out is how to make gears. But SketchUp 16 has no such option. This means I really need to learn another 3D drawing program. A new stressor. But like with all things when it is time I will learn. Meanwhile I will use this site as one of my major stress relievers , and do what I can to improve other people's experience in life. Someone once said on this site that I was a very private person, which I find quite humorous. I try to keep my craziness on this site on this thread.

Sorry you’re having a difficult time. Perhaps with the thoughts you’re having it’s time to find another stress reliever instead of cognac and brandy.

I went through a similar serious life challenge. I found that mindfulness relieved stress for me. There’s an excellent app whose free options are very helpful. Download the app, Calm! And reduce or eliminate your alcohol intake.

As far as 3D printing gears, have you investigated Thingiverse? It has many useful (free) models for 3D printing, including gear sets.

Good luck and take care of yourself.

Dallas has something called Dallas makerspace or the space for short. I am a member. If it wasn't for the handy ride program in Dallas called paratransit I would go there more often (if it wasn't for paratransit I couldn't go at all). But they have a tendency to abuse people who really need them, being incredibly late or arbitrarily changing the time of the trip without notice, so I don't use them anymore for that trip even the best of times it is a 30 minute ride. I am a member it will be until I die. I used to volunteer a lot for them, when I had this stroke they donated a power wheelchair to me which has been a godsend. Part of their test for using their 3D printers is Thingiverse. I would rather learn how to make my own from scratch. Right now I'm looking at tinkercad as a possible alternate 3D drawing art program. But I am always hoping for other suggestions. SketchUp has a very excellent video tutorial to teach people how to use their software. It is made by Google.

For the record I limit my drinking to Saturday.

Wendy, I haven't been on this forum lately, and just read about your medical issues. Sorry, I wasn't aware.

You may not remember me, but you spend alot of time some years ago helping me with a scoreboard I was trying to build for my soccer club. I ended up successfully building that board as well as a further 2 based on arduino for the next club I moved to. These are still in operation! This was greatly thanks to endless, tireless and patient help from yourself - which a person like myself who hasn't got a background in electronics.

As an ex teacher, I know that helping others is what I really enjoyed and still do. When you say "improve other people's experiences in life", seems like your ticking that box perfectly. You've got a great heart.

Hi Wendy,

What i've learned over the years is that most of life is not what is happening around us it is what is happening in the brain or the mind.
I remember someone telling me about "beer goggles" where the guy would get drunk to make his lady friend look more attractive. Now how can that happen. She did not change her appearance at all, yet somehow he became more attracted to her. The change was not in her appearance it was a change inside his mind. Once his mind was changed like that however, he was able to view life in a more pleasing way. That's the power of the mind. That's why i believe they make anti depressants. An anti depressant has that 'beer goggles" effect and after all everything we view is really and truly relative ... relative to what we 'think' it should be ... a preconceived notion of what we consider normal or 'doing well' or something like that. But looking around the world i see people doing much much much worse than either of us here and they are relatively happy. How can that be possible. It's because their view of life is relative to what they already believe is normal for most people, and for them normal might be consider less than normal for other people, yet they still stay moving and relatively happy.
So the trick is to get to feel like everything is normal, because it really is normal, it just doesnt seem like it because we are basing our judgement on the things we've seen in the past which formed our entire belief system.
This i think is what anti depressants help with. To help form a view that is more balanced and show that each situation can be judged more pleasantly as our view changes a little.

I hope i made these points clear i dont really know your exact situation but i went though some hard times and i noticed that how we judge things depends on how we want to judge things not how other people judge things and not on the history of how we judged things in the past.

Hope your Christmas goes well. It helps to make a really good dinner or order one to be delivered if you dont want to make one yourself.

Wendy, when I get out and about frequently people will tell me have a good day or week as I often tell people also. My response is always all days are good, just some more gooder than others. :) I guess it's just about trying to be positive about things. Like you mentioned, you survived. It may help to look back every now and then at the progress since the setback. I just noticed this:
You may not remember me, but you spend alot of time some years ago helping me with a scoreboard I was trying to build for my soccer club. Think about the difference you made. I'm not saying you are Jimmy Stewart and It's A Wonderful Life but think about the difference you have made in the lives of others. Something to certainly be happy about.

If you ask around enough, you'll realize
  1. we are all equally &*#$!%@ but each in our own way - relationships, money, illness, lifespan, family, guilt, pain or what ever. If you see someone who seems to have it all, they are either hiding their issues or their turn hasn't come yet.
  2. There is always at least one day sometime in the future that lets you make someone else happy or improve their life and/or someone or some event happens that makes you happy
Hopefully, no matter how rarely what happens in #2 occurs, hopefully it's good enough to keep looking for the next one and those events more than make up for everything bad from #1.

A quick review of the Ender 3 Pro 3D printer.

3D printing observations

there are better printers out there. Generally they are more expensive. The ender 3 pro can be bought at micro Centers for around $200. Do get the extended warranty you may need it.

What I can tell you about drinking to ease the pain is that not only does it sometimes fail to ease the pain, but also, eventually it wears off and the pain remains . Of course it can be far worse than that, also. Sometimes you die.

Wendy, your contributions here are definitely valuable and you are appreciated. Hang in there. If your drinking is restricted to one day a week, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Yes i know someone who drinks all the time it is very very sad i worry she may not survive too long.

I myself find that a beer now and then helps when i feel really down, but if i were to drink day after day it would become passe' and no longer effective. I usually go three months or more without a beer.
