Hello.
I have to simulate a RPG weapon in Airsoft. The firing distance will be approximately 50m. So the target has to "detect" the shot. My first idea was to use red tactical laser beam. I made simple PIC based target with photo transistors and it works ,but the problem is that a huge amount of photo transistors have to be used to create a proper 50m target. Is it possible to replace laser with RF, or ? Any ideas? Thanks !

I'm with Bertus, I would go w/ a fresnel lens(maybe out of a junk Rear Projection TV), and use one Phototransistor at the focal point to pick up the signal. Mount everything in a dark enclosure so the phototransistor won't be inondated w/ noise etc. I believe Fresnel lenses are fairly forgiving on the optical receive angle aswell, which would give the shooter some flexability.
