I used to do radio maintenance work on fire, police, ambulance and civil defense in the 70s.

Back then FCC transmitter maintenance logs were kept on all transmitters.

This was also the time of the digital siren/strobe christmas tree change out. After the maintenance and equipment change out.....we would drive the cruisers and firetrucks, buses....what ever, throughout the county, for a "radio maintenance check".

This would insure proper contact with various repeaters.....at least that was the excuse.....for us, it was horsing around with cruisers, firetrucks and buses.

We could really get attention.....with the new digital strobes and sirens! Everyone one wanted to hear the different siren calls. For small, little(not much) behind the times, western towns, It was a big deal. The strobes were impressive too that evening. People wanted to know how to get such things.

Looks like in the future, all cars will have this feature.
