Note the simulation you posted is showing the short circuit current, your actual circuit being used as the load will only draw the current it needs to operate.

For example If the project load resistance was 5R then with a 5Volt output that would 5V/5R = 1Amp.

Just don't use BD540(5A) in a real world for 2A draw current, you can use 2N3055 with a heatsink.
