This is a minor point, but what was discovered wasn't an actual particle, but something called a quasiparticle.I recently read about a particle that has mass only in one direction?
A quasiparticle can be a combination of particles (or even a lack of particles) that give the impression of acting like a real particle, but aren't the same thing.
