Yeah ... I believe that change (particularly procedural change) should have a purpose. Not just change for the sake of change only.

i hear you. i am avoiding plugins too.
the good thing is one can easily roll their own. it should be just few lines of code to invert or swap colors on entire display or specific program window. but i am lazy so i too made exception for this one...

The problem with software changes are that they are mostly unnecessary, make things worse and introduce bugs. My theory is that new projects start out with a team of coders with a range of abilities. Those who are able do a good job quickly and move on to something more interesting and challenging. Those that remain feel the need to make changes to justify their continued employment.

This has always been a problem but it's amplified by the hiring of the best to work on AI projects. This is why most applications are actually getting worse, with nobody from "management" who understands the detail. Eventually, AI will pick up the slack - it's already beginning to happen.

i too hate them sometimes, and still use them the other times, for example when i am just trying to finish something and my eyes are burning after long day staring at monitor.
that is why i prefer flexibility - with a click of a key i can have it either way.
