I've been getting notices that are automatically generated by V-Bulletin telling me that somebody is Russia is trying to log in as me, more than once. I have notified the mods and Geo told me I could make a public announcement, so here it is:

I use this site often and it returns different data. What gives?

 

Geo told me the hack is coming from Russia, so he probably already did this search.
Any members in Russia? If so, go to Liljerum Grenadjartorpet 71 and smack Leon on the head for me.

Mine puts me all the way up in Portland Maine--well over a hundred miles away, two hundred if you consider the driving distance.

P.S. In my part of the country, 100/200 miles is a very long way

 

The IP address location is typically your ISPs location.

 

I tend to use complex passwords, long and random, and every site has its own. More than that you can not do much about.

I've been driving even more than that, some times up to four times a week to attend vessels upriver. Boring and risky when you come back home, tired and dangerously relaxed because your job was finished properly. Exactly 478 Km to go and another 478 to come back, leaving 04.00 and back at the office around midnight.

20 miles takes me to the next state over. All the states in my neck of the woods are small, so a few miles can make a huge difference

This is from my website stats, all these sites are fake and exist for the sole purpose of tempting site owners to click on them, and they contain nasty scripts and viruses to try and get your FTP password to the web server.

 

Just had a thought, #12 is 3rd alphabetically in the members list and the 1st currently active user, so an automated password hacking system might go for that first.

I had that thought , too, so I changed my password to something complicated.

Russian 'hackers' have been around a long time trying to crack our codes and communication links. Most of the them today are just 'script kiddies' but the authors of these hack bots are very very good at using injection type hacks to gain information from users.

 

I'm not sure about them being "Russian" hackers, I thought it was common for all hackers to use proxies in places like Russia?
