You make a very good point.
How many folks understand how the RS-232 COM works?
Or a UART or SCI? How many can build a UART from basic TTL components? How many really care how it works but will use it all the time in an application by simply calling a library function such as printf( )? ... and still don't know what is a stop bit or a parity bit?
