You make a very good point.

How many folks understand how the RS-232 COM works?
Or a UART or SCI? How many can build a UART from basic TTL components? How many really care how it works but will use it all the time in an application by simply calling a library function such as printf( )? ... and still don't know what is a stop bit or a parity bit?

 

Thanks to everyone who has helped and offered suggestions. I'm going to have a look at all the options and see which I think fits my needs the best.
