what will microcontroller accept it as ...... it except it as hex or decimal

 

I think that hex is by default. I'm not sure, but there is an excellent resource that walks you through an 8052 (which is an extensive version of an 8051).

I think the default depends on the assembler you are using. Mine is decimal. I am using Keil.

 

Over all the assemblers I've ever seen, besides all the ones I haven't --decimal is the more likely default radix.
