(What happened to my writing?)
Hello ladies and gents,
I trust you are all well. I'm hoping any of your goodselves can assist in directing me on what could be the cause, that is stopping the torch to not charge via wall socket to DC plug. I can just throw it in the bin,but prefer to repair it first. The 6xAAA battery pack/cell is a new build,as I thought the old one had lost it's lifespan. Where shall I start looking? Please refer to the above pictures. Thanks in advance

Measure the output of the charger and battery voltage when they're being charged.

What is the battery chemistry?
Thanks Dennis. Just to add,I have purchased another exact same torch (always good to have a 2nd one) to check it might be the wall socket charger, which isn't great,as it doesn't stay charging. But I do have a universal charger, which stays charging on the 2nd new torch, but not on the 1st torch. So I've narrowed it down to the internals of the 1st torch. The photos are from the 1st torch

Try putting the battery from the new one in the old one and see if your charger will charge it.

If the original charger was defective, it might not have been charging the batteries sufficiently and one or more cells in the original pack are weak or dead. The bad thing about operating batteries in series is that the weak one can be driven into reverse charge by it's stronger siblings. A half volt of reverse charge is enough to kill the battery.

Is the secondary charger designed for NiMH batteries? If not, you'll likely overcharge them; which will also shorten their lifetime.

The proper way to charge batteries in series is to sense the voltage on each cell and adjust charge parameters to avoid under or overcharging.

If your battery packs are of sufficient quality, the batteries will have started out matched. Over time, they'll become unmatched and they're living on borrowed time.

Thanks Dennis. Resolved it. I did try the newest torch battery pack, still didn't charge. Swopped the dc socket and it started to charge. So the fault is the DC socket....thanks again
