Hello,
1)How do i determine if a 555 is operating in astable or monostable modes?

2)Is it compared to the output of the timer?

3)I know i can get a squarewave(pulse) from it, does it also do sine waves?

4)How do you determine the frequency at which it pulses? For example say if i want pulse at 10Hz how would i get it.

The operation of a 555 has been dealt with ad-nauseum in this forum. Why not go to this site's own tutorials for details

You could also Google for the datasheet. Its application notes will provide all the information you need.
