50A inrush from capacitor bank required

Hi All,

I am trying to build a capacitor bank to get a high inrush current of at least 50A for at least the first cycle.
This is for an experiment. I found the following IEEEC37.99. Which is supposed to get the inrush calculation.

I(max) = 1.414 * V * Sqrt(C / L)

Not sure if this is the right way. Got a result to use 100mF capacitor to achieve this. This is the right way to do this?

You need to explain more about what you are trying to do. What is the current source? What do you mean by "the first cycle?"

opps left out some of the details I guess.

VAC: 120V@60Hz
Grid source.

I need the two cycles (each cycle being 16.6ms)

That will be much harder than you think. Every capacitor can give you an inrush current, but sustaining it for 33.2mS is different, especially if your duty cycle is 50%.

Let me know if this line of reason makes sense.

30A peak would mean 21.21A RMS

@120V it would mean 84.84J of Energy.

This means for half cycle I would be able to get 30A peak with a capacitor
