Hello. I have a 480 volt, 3 phase shop heater and I am trying to figure out if i can use it in my garage where I have 220 that I use for my welder. I’m ok with the heater only putting out 1/2 it’s power. It’s a Fostoria Heat Wave Portable Electric Salamander Heater.
Thanks

Recalculate the power output at that voltage with the impedance (roughly) constant.

The power is the product of Voltage times current.
If both are halved then the power after that is only 1/4 of the power.

Is there a way to reconfigure for different voltages?

I think these heaters heater will have a three phase motor to drive the fan. If you can wire it in star configuration you MAY be able to get it to work using a capacitor to produce phase shift. A 480 volt motor when wired for delta would still expect about 277 vol;ts phase to star point (Neutral.) when configured in star. I think you might find it difficult to get a suitable VFD is the capacitor method does not work. (Which it probably wont.) It might be cheaper to replace the three phase motor with a single phase one.
If the elements are wired in star configuration and you connected them in parallel you would only get (220/277)^2 = 0.63 times the rated power. If they are wired in delta you would only get (220/480)^2 = 0.21 times the rated power.
