Perhaps this is an absolutely outrageous question because of my "newbieness" but:

Is it possible to connect a 4060 to a 4511 7 segment led driver? I was wondering if it is possible to take the pin 7 of 4060 (my output) and attach it to pin 1 (or 2 or 6 or 7) of a 4511 to drive my 7 segment Led display?

 

Yes, but it's only worthwhile if you really want to see the state of the 4060 bit 4. Otherwise there is no useful information there.

It is more useful to use the 4060 as a clock source to drive a decimal counter and use the counter's A, B, C, & D outputs to feed the 4511. That way, the counter at least goes from 0 - 9. Look up the data sheet for a 4160.

 

My aim is, every time the pin 7 of the 4060 produces a signal at say a frequency of 1 high per second, a led should indicate that the 4060 has produced the signal, and that that signal will be given to "another counter" that counts up and shows it on the led display. Is there a good sound solution to my problem?

 

Maybe 4033 will be better

 

The 4033 might actually not be such a bad idea. Here is a good schematic, where one simply could swap the 555 for the pin 7 of 4060.

 

What about the 4026, is it possible to connect the 4026 instead of the 4033 like shown in the circuit above?

 

Yes you can use 4026, or 40110

Does anyone know how one would go about daisy-chaining more 4026s for higher counts than from 1-9? Which pin would have to go where so that the second 4026 would "understand" that were dealing with decades, and the third 4026 with centuries?

The 4060 produces a square signal at its output. Is it a TTL or a BCD signal? How can i tell with an oscilloscope the difference between a TTL or a BCD?

 

4060 is CMOS circuit and he is a generator which produces square signa, plus a counter in natural binary codes.
