I am building a semi trailer for our offroad race team.
There are 3 voltage ranges 12V, 24V and 230v.
A 3KVA (230V) inverter is powered from the 24V battery bank.
My solar controller can sense the battery voltage connected to it and I want to use it to charge both the 12v and 24v battery banks.
I also use the 24V batteries to power most 12V (twelve) circuits via DC / DC converters. Mostly lighting, USB chargers etc
The 12V batteries power a hoist and an air compressor.
My question is: Can I fit the 12V negative and the 24V negative to the same common Busbar.
The connections on the negative Busbar are:
1. Negative from the solar controller (either 12V or 24V - depending on the battery bank the positive from the controller is connected to)
2. 12V from 12V batteries
3. 24V from the 24V batteries
4. Negative to the 24V to 12v DC / DC converter.
I have fitted a changeover switch from the solar controller which either connects to the 12V battery bank or the 24V battery bank.
A similar question was asked a few months ago and the answer seems to be "Yes". Do I understand that this is indeed correct. Not sure that I want to start from scratch after a potentially spectacular explosion...
I would really appreciate some help on this
